Postcard van der Wateren No. 22

Some postcards with Ornament 2 - the finer design of the needle-ornament below the word “NEPAL SARKAR” - exist with a double frame. Only a very small number of these cards are recorded and the mint ones are exceedingly rare. All recorded used cards (except one late usage in 1945) were sent by the “British Envoy at the Court of Nepal” for means of information to native people, most probably concerning payments to Gurkha soldiers in the British Army. The cards were sent by the “British Envoy at the Court of Nepal” at Kathmandu between October 1920 and May 1922. The recorded used cards obviously did not reach their destination and were returned to the Envoy and archived.
